Weekend, early week

Intern word of the day: oversharing. As in "This may be oversharing but..."

Spent Saturday at brunch, traipsing to the Amelia Johnson Gallery with Han Yan, and visting the Hong Kong handover exhibit sponsered by the Asia Art Archive with Wei. Handover/Talkover was held in the Cattle Depot Arts Village, an old slaughterhouse that has been refurbished into art spaces. The most interesting pieces were in the foyer-- four birthday cakes baked and decorated especially for the anniversary, and a paper cutout that a Hong Kong artists commisioned from a Western artist to play with the idea of identity. The rest of the spaces are for the most part underused, but the whole area is rich with colorful apartment buildings and the verdance that is Hong Kong. We had dinner in the Thai neighborhood that was about a 15 minute walk from the exhibit. Yummy.

One of my mom's friends in Hawaii, a photographer named Brian Sato, is showing his photos of Nissei in Honolulu. There's a fab write-up in the Honolulu Star Bulletin, with some elegant photos of Brian and couple of his pieces as well.
